We’ve all heard it before. Stretching is important. So why do we always have so much trouble fitting it into our busy schedules? Stretching tends to fall by the wayside when our to-do lists are a mile long. Read below for some quick and easy stretches you can do and resources you can use to get up and get moving—morning, noon, or night.
Our comfortable ballet flats are all you need to get moving and stretching, without having to pack those bulky sneakers. By moving with you, they give you the freedom and flexibility to get in your daily steps and finally commit to that at-work stretching regime. But before you even get out of bed and put them on, give yourself a minute to properly wake up. Right when you wake up, wiggle your fingers and toes, put your arms over your head for a full-body stretch, and reacquaint yourself with your body. When you go straight from bed to the car or desk, you don’t give your body the chance to fully recover from the previous night’s sleep.
If you don’t have time to make it to the gym or go for a quick run before work, YouTube is a wonderful resource to start your day off right. We love Yoga with Adriene because you can handpick the video depending on your mood or time constraints. All you need is five minutes for this morning yoga sequence.
Once your day gets going, it can be hard to take a step back and stretch. We’re certainly guilty of barely looking up from our computers sometimes. Apps like Move and Stand Up! are great reminders to get up and do something active. You can do anything from a forward fold to relieve stress, a sun salutation to reenergize the body, or a seated heart opener to combat the effects of hunching over the computer. Even taking a few moments to stretch your wrists at your desk after typing all day can have a positive impact on your body. Whatever you’re doing, no matter how gentle or strenuous, your Rothy’s will be there for you every step of the way.
