Meet The Sustainability Council.
The future of fashion is circular—and at Rothy’s, we’re excited to be at the forefront of this movement. As part of our quest for better, we’re widening our circle to bring together The Sustainability Council, a group of scientists, designers and experts that will work together to create industry-wide, zero-waste product solutions for Rothy’s and beyond.
How does all this come to life? To start, The Sustainability Council is focusing on developing end-of-wear recycling capabilities for Rothy’s, which we’ll then make available to the wider fashion industry. Recycling shoes is notoriously complex, which is why it’s not that common. But with the help of this group of experts, we are actively at work to create innovative solutions that will move the fashion industry toward a better, more sustainable future. We’re excited to step into uncharted territory together—and take the next great leaps toward a planet-friendly future.

Samata Pattinson, CEO of Red Carpet Green Dress
Samata is the CEO of Red Carpet Green Dress, a women-led global organization that uses collaboration, education and research to advance circularity in the apparel industry. Samata’s work spans from the red carpet design initiative with the Annual Academy Awards to educating the emerging design community.
Lewis Perkins, President of the Apparel Impact Institute
As President of the Apparel Impact Institute, Lewis oversees the collaboration of brands and manufacturers that seek to scale sustainability in the apparel and footwear industry. Lewis was previously the president of Cradle to Cradle Innovation Institute, where he led the Fashion Positive Initiative.
Brittany Sierra, Founder & CEO of the Sustainable Fashion Forum
Brittany is the Founder and CEO of the Sustainable Fashion Forum, a growing online platform and global conference that fosters conversation around the intersections of fashion and sustainability. The Forum’s goal is to educate, empower and inspire the community to reimagine the future of fashion.
Michael Sadowski, Sustainability Expert
Michael is an independent sustainability expert working to advance circularity and climate solutions in the apparel and footwear industry. Michael is currently working with World Resources Institute to develop a roadmap to net zero greenhouse gas emissions for the apparel sector, and has helped develop several impactful multi-stakeholder collaborations including the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals Group and the Closed Loop Fund.
Jing Wang, Director, North Asia GBCI and USGBC
Jing Wang is Director of North Asia for Green Building Certifications Inc. and U.S. Green Building Council, the market leader responsible for LEED green building certification and other sustainability credentials. Jing oversees strategic partnerships to advance sustainable practices across the region.
Saskia van Gendt, Head of Sustainability at Rothy’s
An environmental scientist with over a decade of experience in sustainable manufacturing and design, Saskia is the Head of Sustainability at Rothy’s. In her role, Saskia develops strategies to minimize the environmental impact of Rothy’s supply chain, and advance sustainable innovations.
Roth Martin, Co-Founder and President at Rothy’s
Inspired by the desire to take conscious consumerism to the mainstream, Roth worked with fellow Co-Founder Stephen Hawthornthwaite to bring their vision of an innovative, earth-conscious brand to life. Roth oversees both business operations and creative design development for Rothy’s.
Sun Lee, VP of Design at Rothy’s
With over 20 years of experience in the fashion and design space, Sun brings her expertise to Rothy’s as the VP of Design. Sun has a deep understanding of brand building, and oversees all aspects of product design at Rothy's, including color, pattern and the use of sustainable materials.
