Celebrating Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month
We want to take this moment to honor the life of Yolanda Lopéz, a famous Chicana artist and activist whose impactful works of art are central to the Mission District of San Francisco.
At Rothy’s, we’re proud to celebrate Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month with the leadership of our own employees. From customers to team members, we’re grateful for our Hispanic community—including those in our vibrant hometown of San Francisco.
In celebration of this month, Rothy’s is donating $10,000 to a local nonprofit. To determine which organization would receive the donation, our team took a poll and selected the Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA)—a local San Francisco organization that aims to build a more equitable society. Based in the Mission District, MEDA provides social services like housing, workforce development and professional development in order to create increased opportunities in the community.
We also asked some of our team members from Rothy's HQ and our retail stores to share their favorite Latinx and Hispanic-owned businesses. We hope you’ll join us in supporting some of these businesses, as well as your own favorites. Thank you for being a part of our community and for celebrating this important month with us.
SAN FRANCISCO
Loló
Located right on Valencia Street, Loló is a colorful, vibrant restaurant that serves Jaliscan-inspired cuisine and delicious cocktails.
Evolved SF
Part clothing store and part art gallery, this location on 24th Street is a creative multimedia studio where you can find great art and unique products.
NEW YORK
La Newyorkina
La Newyorkina is a woman-owned Mexican sweets company that sells great ice popsicles with tropical fruit flavors. While its Astor Place location is seasonal, they also have an online shop!
Caracas Arepa Bar
Caracas Arepa Bar is located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They serve amazing Venezuelan arepas and always have great fried plantains as a side.
LOS ANGELES
The Juicy Leaf
A one-of-a-kind boutique store, The Juicy Leaf is a great place to check out if you love unique pottery, succulents (and all other plants) and vintage furniture.

Volunteer Opportunities
- 826 Valencia: 826 Valencia is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting under-resourced children and adolescents with their writing skills. The very first writing center opened in the Mission District of San Francisco in 2002, and the organization has since expanded nationwide. Beyond San Francisco, you can now volunteer with them in Los Angeles, Boston, New York, Chicago and more!
